Send the moderators a message if you'd like a user flair reflecting that.Hello and welcome to yet another look into Mac emulation and my PowerPC Mac emulator.First thing to note is I've been doing a little bit of behind-the-scenes work as to how the PowerPC even came into being.Long story short so far: it seems like Motorola, Apple, and IBM were all independently working on their own RISC processors. There are very few playable commercial titles for PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox one, and Nintendo Switch emulators. But it also means several apps that rely on those instructions crash in Sheepshaver. For my emulator, I've being using this repository to guide me in how the ROMs work: And huge thanks to the person running it, Elliot Nunn, for not only his work in dissecting the ROMs, but also assisting me in getting the ROM to work. So, with Macs, while the hardware configurations will inevitably vary between machines, I did manage to come up with a sort of physical memory map of locations common between all the various PowerPC Macs: 00000000 - 7FFFFFFF81000000 - ATI MACH 64 (For G3 Beige, my target ROM, this will be what I'll try to use)F3013000 - Serial Printer Port (0x20 bytes)F3013020 - Serial Modem Port (0x20 bytes)F3014000 - DAVAudio Sound Bus (0x1000 bytes)F3015000 - SWIM 3 Floppy Disk Drive (0x1000 bytes)(below addresses apply to Old World ROMs, noting important code locations within the ROMs)FFF00100 - Reset Area (where the ROM begins executing)The ROM itself goes FFF00100 -> FFF20000 -> FFF10000.If you want to know where my emulator gets to before crapping out, somewhere around 0xFFF03048 or 0xFFF0304C. PearPC actually does emulation of many of the components required to emulate a Mac, enough to boot it up.Also, Sheepshaver doesn't try emulating the supervisor-level instructions, which is a huge reason the hacks exist in the first place (one of the patches for the ROMs actually replaces an rfi instruction). One reason is that it uses the floppy drive emulation to work with hard disks (at least those Sheepshaver makes), hijacking a floppy disk driver built into the OS to do so. Hide paragraph marks in word for mac 2011Apple do the wrong choice a lot though. Good thing people do not use the OS much and just apps otherwise it would be more of an issue.PowerPC was apple's greatist mistake, we might have had a decent OS sooner if it just went intel/amd (you know better cheaper platforms). It was comparible to win 3.11 it its capabilities it was an abomination. I want the emulator to be as good as I can make it myself.Do define what you are comparing things to.You seem to agree pre OSX was a horrible mess on powerpc and nearly killed the system (in as much as you did not mention it). But t hat is another story.I will agree there! Tiger was much better t han windows in the day. I liked macos at times, it was fun, it was mostly bad however technically. Now if you want fun tyou want the 68k era. A decent spec PC would do just as much and probably cost less, but you are probably comparing to bottom end crap like people alwasy do when they must promote their view. That said. Also you say comtempory and then forget to compare on specs. Hey they were running it since beta. But of course they could not keep it good and it got shit again later (around the time they brought in an "app store").So in your thrilling days all the sane windows users were using win 2000 (XP was to fisher price and not ready yet). My favourite OS of all time is probably Amiga OS for the happy times. But windows 2000 was there for the early days and while most people did not you could easily turn XP into look like win 2000 please mode! But again is the OS even important? Yes the platform is becuase of popularity and having programs but is the OS? I say no. Even years after running as debian boxes! (I did not mention that bit!)And yes XP looked shit. At least both mac transitions got that better.I am probably older than you? Who knows? I did mention my love of 68k macs. Still had windows boxes for gaming though (since you had to and still do, so it was not everything but that is more market share).Pentium 4 was horrible at the start, but hey some things take time! Pentium pro would probably have evolved into something great, but 99% of people cared more about backwards compatibility and it was shit. I see why, I do not care for it. Mainly trying to turn it into ios. Hey why not, but they need to do som serious getting over issues. Hey I switched to vista pretty much for 64 bit (Vists SP1 is pretty much is Win 7, new name was "marketing reasons").Would use mac os again. I used diskmaster II instead!Yeah the timing was off and mac should have stuck out for 54 bity intel rather than switching early. Hell but so are current machines. And has become fairly usable since the easy eary versions I once played with! And heaters. ReactOS is pretty much proof of that.
